In Bihar, not many are known in the business sector with their family names. Goenkas of Patna City are one such family who have almost a 100-year-old lineage of business history in the state. Today, one of the family members, Satish Goenka, along with his father Gopichand Goenka have made a new venture in the restaurant, food and beverage sector in Bihar.
It was in 1920s, Mussadi Lal Goenka had come Patna and started his business in the steel manufacturing and hardware exports. In those days, in spite of various daunting challenges, he opened various steel products and utensil shops. Along with other family members, Goenkas ventured in hand-made and home-made only biscuit factory in Bihar ‘Paris Biscuit’.
Later they also established steel rod manufacturing unit and rolling mills. As business prospered, they went on to fore into aluminum industry and established a company named Suresh Aluminum Works, which was one of the biggest in the Eastern India in those days.
It was then, Gopichand Goenka entered into business. With his business acumen, he worked hard and was successful in increasing the number of spinning mills and expanding the business in states like Bengal (Calcutta) and Assam. In 1994/96, he further opened Patna Wire unit.
However, in the 1990s, the Goenka family business got divided into different business among family members. It was then, Gopichand’s son Satish Goenka, a Patna Science College graduate, stepped into BI Wire and Rolling Mill business.
Satish had to overcome a lot of personal and business challenges in his life. He made a lot of study into different business possibilities in Bihar and tried hands on a few of them. He succeeded at some and failed too. But, he never lost hope and ventured into different sectors and collaborated with different businesses.
Moving on in life, Satish, a food lover and having a passion to always try something new in creating new food dishes, innovative taste and flavors, had a vision to something in the food and beverage sector. It was then he got in touch with Ashfaque and planned to open Pukhtaan in Patna. Now, his passion and hobby is his ambition, goal and work.
